     Description

    Why you should consider roll-fed folding…

    • IDEAL FOR HIGH SPEED, HIGH-VOLUME folding of leaflets for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and small novelties industries.
    • ASSURES INTEGRITY OF THE JOB by minimizing the possibility of leaflet mix-ups.
    • SAVES ON COSTS as roll paper is less expensive than cut sheets.

      • There is minimal paper waste because no trimming is required.
      • There is minimal product spoilage because there are no sheets to double or become misaligned. The result is fewer jams.

    • Sheeting is done automatically on-line. 

    RS42–RS21/880/2 Roll-Fed Plough Folding System…

    • This high-speed folding system, with two folders, is a great choice for installing onto packaging lines for cross-folding larger sheets.
    • The RS21/880/2 Folder attaches to the drive of the packaging line by chain or toothed belt.
    • The RS42 Folder has its own drive which is electronically synchronized with the RS21/880/2.
    • Set up is easy with caliper quick-set rollers and micrometer dials for fine tuning.
    • Rollers are belt-driven for quiet operation, low maintenance and long wear.
    • The plough folding system is pictured with a double-reel stand with a splicing station, feeding directly into the RS42 Roll-Fed Folder. A 90º angled floor mount is available. See floor mounts.

    Plough folding on the RS42 Folder…

    • The paper is folded along the center of the length of the paper coming off the roll stand—forming the first fold before it is cut-to length.
    • A rotational brush and air jets cleans and directs the folded paper. 
    • The folded paper is eased into a buffer loop between the two folders to alleviate tension problems in the transfer of the folded paper from the RS42 to the draw-off roller of the RS21/880/2. See illustration in Features. 

    Leaflet Sheeting…

    • The RS21/880/2 Folder has a universal draw-off roller. The length of the leaflet is entered by millimeters on the electronic control panel and the proper length is drawn by the draw-off roller.
    • When the length is confirmed by the electronic reading of the print mark on each leaflet, sheeting is automatically done by a rotary knife.

    Leaflet Folding…

    • Cut-to-length folded sheets are transferred to the RS21/880/2 Folder for cross-folds.
    • Folded leaflet delivery is coordinated with the packaging line for inserting into cartons along with the product.

    Speed…

    • RS42–RS21/880/2 production speeds are up to 400 per minute, depending on the stock and sheet cut-off length.

     

    Options…

    • Digital roller setting is available. See Accessories.
    • The folders can be equipped with a servo motor.
    • The RS21/880/2 can be equipped with a stand, motor, and delivery unit to accommodate off-line operation.

    Easy setup…

    Roller setup is quick and easy by inserting pieces of paper in quick-set caliper devices. Micrometer dial adjustments can be made on the fly.

     

     

    Plough Folding…

    The RS42 Folder makes the first fold along the center of the length of paper off the roll, aided by a rotational brush and air jets to direct the folded paper.

     

     

    Smooth paper transfer…

    The folded paper is eased into a buffer loop between the two folders to avoid tension problems in the transfer of the paper to the draw-off roller of the RS21/880/2.

    MCS-106 Predetermined Counter

    • It performs and displays readouts of the total and batch counts and the current production speed by digital tachometer.
    • A 0- to 10-second delay can be set to pause the feeding process to create batches.
    • For batch counting with the vertical-stack delivery unit on the stand-alone folding system, you enter the number of pieces per batch to trigger the unit’s ejector magnet which staggers pieces to mark batches.

    Roll stands with a servo drive give you smoother production…

    • The servo drive is synchronized with the packaging-line along with the folding system.
    • It unwinds the roll paper as required by the folder draw-off roller.

    • Double-roll stand with servo drive

     

     

     

    • It solves the difficulty of unrolling paper at the end of the roll. There is no stress or pull on the paper throughout dispensing the whole roll—even at the end of the roll when the paper doesn't unroll as easily and there is risk of stretching or tearing the paper.
    • Roll stands with a servo drive are ideal for high-speed or intermittent production.

    		Save valuable production time with an automatic roll changer…
    • The ARW21/2 Automatic Splicer/Roll Stand allows continuous production, without the need to stop the system for a roll change.
    • It handles paper widths up to 8-1/4 inches (210 mm).
    • It has a servo drive and a Siemens 57 Controller.

    How it works…
    • As the first paper roll nears the end, the system reduces its speed to 150 leaflets per minute and will operate with the accumulated reserve of paper.
    • When the end of the roll in production reaches the splicing station, it is overlapped with the start of the next roll and attached with double stick tape in the splicing station.
    • When splicing is completed, the system resumes high-speed production.
